At 1am Friday night, we got the gut wrenching call that Dan had been violently assaulted by a group of absolute grubs on the Sunshine Coast. The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, showing that Dan had done absolutely nothing to these cowards - an attack that was completely unprovoked, and Dan did not deserve what happened to him.

He was rushed to hospital, intubated, placed in an induced coma, and left fighting for his life with a severe traumatic brain injury.

He was quickly transported to Brisbane Royal to undergo surgery straight away. The surgeons drained the bleeding and removed almost half of his skull to relieve the pressure caused by the swelling.

The last few days have been nothing short of a nightmare. But if there’s one thing we know for certain, it’s that Dan will not give up.

Yesterday, Dan began breathing on his own and was taken off the ventilator. He has started waking up and opening his eyes. While he is extremely distressed when he wakes up (something doctors have told us is normal at this stage), these are positive signs. The progress he has made in just a few days has amazed everyone.

There is still a very long and uncertain road ahead. Recovery from a traumatic brain injury will take a lot of time, patience, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical support. But if anyone is capable of a miracle recovery, it’s Dan.

He is so deeply loved by so many and has an army of people standing behind him, thinking of him, and sending nothing but strength and positive energy his way. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you ❤️‍
