At the start of 2024, I was hospitalized for a health emergency that left me unable to walk due to lower lumbar issues and infections. While I was laid out in a hospital bed, my right knee became infected, leading to my first surgery and a long course of IV antibiotics. I was unable to return to work for months, missing out on income from Christmas 2023 through June 2024. Unfortunately, I suffered a second infection in the same knee during this time, which kept me out of work even longer.
Financially, I managed for a while with savings, limited income, and equity from a home I had purchased with my siblings. After selling the house, I found a new place close to my job, but my monthly rent more than doubled. I made it back to work for about six months before another infection struck, leading to more hospitalizations and surgeries. In total, I’ve been hospitalized for four separate infections and undergone six surgeries, each requiring months of IV antibiotics and follow-up care. I’ve refinanced my car and used every resource available, but now my savings, FMLA, and union benefits are exhausted.
Today, I’m out of options. My rent is due in two days, and without help, I face eviction and the prospect of living in my car while I try to heal over the next 8-12 weeks. If I can get even a dollar donation from 1,900 fellow Coloradans, I believe I’ll be safe for the next four weeks. Any support will help me keep a roof over my head and focus on recovery. Thank you for considering a donation and for supporting me during this difficult time.
