Help Eric and Dan Rebuild Their Home

On Saturday, June 14th, we were devastated to wake up to our home being accidentally flooded.

After a week and a half of cleanup crews, insurance adjusters, inspectors, phone calls, emails, and texts, we and our cats have settled into an extended stay hotel. Our house was deemed inhabitable for the duration of the reconstruction. Mostly due to the fact that Dan would have had no access to a bathroom where he could shower and construction crews made it so a quick exit in the case of an emergency wasn’t a possibility. We tried to make it work, but we were told it would be a minimum of 45-60 days before the reconstruction work would be completed.

Currently, we are staying in a one-bedroom suite with a kitchen and living area along with an accessible bathroom for Dan. We are very blessed to have a roof over our heads.

So now the numbers hit us. Our insurance is not going to cover many different things about this “accident.” They’ll cover personal items lost but not the cleanup costs. They’ll pay for partial reconstruction, but not the carpet they deemed too old and depreciated. We were quoted the reconstruction costs at $26,000! Insurance isn’t even offering to cover half of the quoted cost or the cleanup expenses. This is way beyond our means, living on a teacher's salary and a disability income.

We are still in shock and looking for anything you may be able to help us with. Everything adds up. If you can’t donate money, donate a gift card for groceries or a meal out, or spend some time with Dan while Eric runs errands, etc.

Many people have asked us how they can help, so we are here asking for it. All we want is to be back in our house as soon as possible.

You always should have a “rainy-day” fund, but it didn’t just sprinkle or was a heavy down-pour- IT FLOODED!
