Hi everyone!
On October 22nd, Damonte Robinson, a professional MMA fighter with XFC and owner of his landscaping company called The Black Hammer Lawncare, fell around 15-20 ft high. He broke his right tibia, shattered his T12 bone in his spinal cord and his T11 bone jumped his spine which made him lose feeling in his legs. He had surgery on his spinal cord and right leg within 24hours of the fall. The 7th day after surgery he was moved to Edwin Shaw rehabilitation center where he was able to participate with his PT (physical therapy) and OT (occupational therapy)which helped him get better at transfers with the help of 3-4 people and a sliding board. With Damonte’s strength, he can now do most transfers on his own, dress himself, and make food for himself but there’s still a lot he is not able to do and we need make some renovations to our house. He was able to come home December 24th. Our bathroom has just enough room for him to get in the shower but not enough room to completely shower on his own or even have access to the toilet. We have had a ramp put in thanks to the help of close friends but we are still needing to pay off the cost of the ramp.
Our main goal is to give Damonte his independence. He is 26 years old and was on his way to making big things happen with his career in fighting. He is a hard worker, kind, friendly and is always there for anyone who needs it whether it was emotionally or physically. This absolutely kills him that he is not able to do every day tasks by himself.
Anything you can donate to help make Damonte more independent would be greatly appreciated!
