My name is Shandreika, and I am raising funds for my household as we support my 14-year-old son, Damon Williams Jr., through an incredibly traumatic time. I am a mother of six, and this past weekend brought more pain and fear than any family should have to endure. On Friday, Damon fell off his electric bike and suffered major burns and other injuries that required stitches. Then, while he was still trying to recover the very next day, he became an innocent bystander in the mass shooting at Charles Young Park. I witnessed the shooting firsthand and had to help my son through that terrifying moment. Damon is an eighth-grade student at Winburn Middle School, and he had been looking forward to playing football this upcoming season. Instead, he is now facing a long physical and emotional recovery.

As a mother, I am doing everything I can to care for Damon while also being there for my other five children. I have had to take time away from work, and the weight of medical expenses, lost income, household necessities, and other unexpected costs during Damon’s recovery has placed a heavy strain on our family.
