Calling All Earthly Angels — A Little Boy Needs You
We are reaching out with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits for a precious 4-year-old boy who urgently needs help. My niece, who is a daughter to me, Gina Christini, is living every parent’s worst nightmare. Her sweet little boy, Damon Jones, is fighting for his life. Damon is pure sunshine: funny, bright, full of personality, and able to warm any heart he meets. But today, Damon needs all of us.
Just over a week ago, he was diagnosed with severe pulmonary artery hypertension and right-sided heart failure, a rare and devastating condition affecting only a small percentage of children. He now requires long-term medical care, continuous treatment, and ultimately a heart/lung transplant. Damon is currently in the PICU on continuous treatments, oxygen, and medications. He will remain hospitalized indefinitely until he stabilizes enough to continue treatment at home while awaiting transplant.
When Damon does return home, life will look very different. He won’t be able to attend daycare, and many aspects of a normal childhood will be limited. On top of the heartbreak, the financial strain is overwhelming. Insurance has denied coverage for several critical medications, including one life-saving treatment costing thousands per month. Combined with PICU care, procedures, and transplant costs, the burden is unimaginable. Gina is also caring for her almost 2-year-old, unsure when or if she can return to work.
