We are asking for help after an unexpected and frightening medical emergency with my in-laws’ Dalmatian, Dallas — who is also my own dog’s brother.

A few days ago, Dallas suddenly stopped being able to pee. He was rushed to the vet, where imaging revealed large bladder stones — so big that he could not pass them on his own. This condition is extremely painful and can become life-threatening within hours.

Because surgery could not be performed right away, he needed:

• Emergency vet visits

• Overnight hospitalization

• IV fluids

• Pain medication

• Catheter placement

• Blood work & imaging

• Continuous monitoring until surgery was possible

When a surgical opening finally became available, Dallas underwent a cystotomy, a major procedure to open the bladder and remove the stones. The surgery alone was $7,000, and the total cost for his care is now close to $10,000.

My in-laws love Dallas deeply and did everything to save his life, but this sudden emergency has created a financial burden far beyond what they can manage alone.
