Help Dalia to complete her medical studies in America

I am Pascale Koller, a French woman living in the south-east of France.

I believe deep down that young Palestinians deserve not only to survive, but to prepare for a better future and fulfill their dreams.

I met Dalia Fathy thanks to Samia Al-Atrash, a journalist from Gaza who was able to evacuate to Egypt in early 2024 and wanted to help her friend Dalia, a final year medical student in Gaza, to continue her specialization in cardiac surgery abroad.

By discovering Dalia's story and talking to her daily, I was touched by the great courage and determination of this independent and strong-willed young woman. She is currently preparing for her final exam in an extremely difficult context both from a technical point of view (little Internet connection, difficult living conditions…) and psychologically.

I created this fundraising to help her evacuate Gaza and continue her studies in the United States (in Gaza, all universities have been destroyed).

The funds raised will be used for the following purposes :

I am Dalia from Gaza, who loves life, hope, and animals.

Throughout my life, the dream of medicine has accompanied me since my childhood, until I graduated from high school in the first year with a grade of 90.4%, which did not allow me to enter medical school. So I repeated high school again until I was able to obtain the admission key, and indeed that happened and I joined this great college after a long time and great effort.

‏I study at the Faculty of Human Medicine at Al-Azhar University, Gaza.

Our lives came to a complete halt due to the fierce war on Gaza that led to the closure of the university, which was bombed by the Israeli occupation. Many fictitious initiatives have appeared on the Internet to complete our studies online. But it was of no use due to the destruction of the infrastructure, the communication network, and the lack of Internet connection. I am seeking to complete my studies abroad, in America, so that I can graduate soon.

But first of all, in order to be able to do this, I must pay the tuition fees accumulated at the university over the past years, due to the siege on the sector, which led to the cessation of my family’s work, that relied on the zoo project.

My family has owned the first and oldest zoo in the Gaza Strip, in Rafah, for twenty-five years. It included many pets and ferocious animals, a large park for families, and many different games such as chains and spins. You also see a picture of me as a nine-year-old girl riding a pony horse, which I considered the most precious and beloved thing in my heart, and unfortunately it died from shrapnel during this fierce war.

‏Since the beginning of the war, I have volunteered at Abu Youssef Al-Najjar Hospital. I was the first female volunteer doctor in this hospital. Every day I dealt with hundreds of different cases of patients and injuries.

One of the most difficult memories for my heart was receiving the news of the martyrdom of my friend Samia Al-Atrash’s sister. I couldn't control myself until I started to break down crying. A feeling of insecurity always accompanied my heart due to the horror of the injuries that we suffered, the sound of the continuous bombing of Rafah city and the sad news about Gaza. I continued to work until the last moment in the hospital before the displacement and evacuation of Rafah city.

‏At the beginning of the war, I received an official invitation from Dr. Magdi Yacoub Cardiology Hospital in Egypt to conduct a training program.

But unfortunately, I was unable to travel due to the closed crossings, which require citizens to pay approximately five thousand dollars per person.

I aspire to complete my specialty in cardiac surgery and become the best surgeon working in this field.

‏In May, I evacuated with my family and some animals from our private zoo. It was very sad and difficult.

My father rented a cow farm in the city of Khan Yunis where it was difficult for us to live with a lack of the bare minimum.

During the time I spent with my family in the city of Khan Yunis, I worked at the Nasser Medical Complex in the internal medicine department, where most of the clinical cases were the result of the war, such as the spread of hepatitis due to the lack of sanitation.

‏In less than two months, the occupation threatened the city of Khan Yunis again. Until the scene of displacement was repeated again in my life, and this time the destination was the city of Deir al-Balah, where my father rented a chicken farm. I now live next to a lion cage, which is very difficult and sad for my heart.

But during this period I was able to work with the IRC Foundation, and I was the leader of the team, as we worked as volunteers to conduct a MUAC examination for children from six months to fifty-nine months for malnutrition, as many cases of SAM and MAM appeared.

I cannot travel before obtaining my university papers, which requires me to pay all the fees accumulated in my past years of college, which amounts to approximately 19 330 €.

Dalia is currently preparing for her final exam and has to go to the Nasser Medical Complex every day to have sufficient internet connection.

The funds will be collected in a french bank account and then part of the funds will be transferred to Dalia in Gaza to meet her basic needs and those of her family.

For evacuation purposes, I will be sending the money to her friend Samia in Egypt, who will utilize the funds to register Dalia for travel.

Additional funds will be transferred to Dalia in Egypt for meeting basic needs after evacuation and to help her to immigrate to the USA.

Je crois au plus profond de moi que les jeunes Palestiniens méritent non seulement de survivre, mais de se préparer un meilleur avenir et d’accomplir leurs rêves.

J'ai rencontré Dalia Fathy grâce à Samia Al-Atrash, une journaliste de Gaza qui a pu évacuer vers l'Egypte début 2024 et qui a souhaité aider son amie Dalia, étudiante en dernière année de médecine à Gaza, à poursuivre sa spécialisation en chirurgie cardiaque à l'étranger.

En découvrant l'histoire de Dalia et en discutant avec elle quotidiennement, j'ai été touchée par le grand courage et la détermination de cette jeune femme indépendante et volontaire. Elle prépare actuellement son examen final dans un contexte extrêmement difficile tant d'un point de vue technique (peu de connexion Internet, conditions de vie difficiles…) que d’un point de vue psychologique.

J'ai créé cette collecte de fonds pour l'aider à évacuer Gaza et à poursuivre ses études aux Etats-Unis (à Gaza, toutes les universités ont été détruites).

Je suis Dalia de Gaza, j'aime la vie, l'espoir et les animaux.

Le rêve de la médecine m'a accompagné depuis mon enfance, jusqu'à ce que j'obtienne mon diplôme de lycée en première année avec une note de 90,4%, ce qui ne m'a pas permis d'entrer à la faculté de médecine. J'ai donc redoublé le lycée jusqu'à ce que je puisse obtenir la clé d'admission, et c'est effectivement arrivé et j'ai rejoint cette grande université après un long temps et de grands efforts.

‏J'étudie à la Faculté de Médecine Humaine de l'Université Al-Azhar, à Gaza.

Nos vies se sont complètement arrêtées en raison de la guerre féroce à Gaza qui a conduit à la fermeture de l'université, bombardée par l'occupation israélienne. De nombreuses initiatives fictives sont apparues sur Internet pour terminer nos études en ligne. Mais cela n'a servi à rien en raison de la destruction de l'infrastructure, du réseau de communication et du manque de connexion Internet. Je cherche à terminer mes études à l’étranger, en Amérique, pour pouvoir obtenir mon diplôme bientôt.

Mais avant tout, pour pouvoir le faire, je dois payer les frais de scolarité accumulés à l’université au cours des dernières années, en raison du siège du secteur, qui a conduit à la cessation du travail de ma famille, qui dépendait du projet de zoo.

Ma famille possédait le premier et le plus ancien zoo de la bande de Gaza, à Rafah, depuis vingt-cinq ans. Il comprenait de nombreux animaux domestiques et sauvages, un grand parc pour les familles et de nombreux jeux différents tels que des chaînes et des toupies. Vous voyez également une photo de moi à l’âge de neuf ans, montant un poney, que je considérais comme la chose la plus précieuse à mon cœur, et qui malheureusement est mort à cause d’éclats d’obus pendant cette guerre cruelle.

‏Dès le début de la guerre, j’ai été bénévole à l’hôpital Abu Youssef Al-Najjar. J’ai été la première femme médecin bénévole de cet hôpital. Chaque jour, je m’occupais de centaines de cas différents de patients et de blessés.

L’un des souvenirs les plus difficiles pour mon cœur a été d’apprendre le martyre de la sœur de mon amie Samia Al-Atrash. Je n'ai pas pu me contrôler jusqu'à ce que je commence à fondre en larmes. Un sentiment d'insécurité accompagnait toujours mon cœur en raison de l'horreur des blessures que nous avons subies, du bruit des bombardements continus de la ville de Rafah et des tristes nouvelles sur Gaza. J'ai continué à travailler jusqu'au dernier moment à l'hôpital, avant le déplacement et l'évacuation de la ville de Rafah.

‏Au début de la guerre, j'ai reçu une invitation officielle de l'hôpital de cardiologie Dr. Magdi Yacoub en Égypte pour mener un programme de formation. Mais malheureusement, je n'ai pas pu voyager en raison de la fermeture des passages frontaliers et de l’obligation pour les citoyens de payer environ cinq mille dollars par personne pour sortir de Gaza vers l’Egypte.

J'aspire à terminer ma spécialité en chirurgie cardiaque et à devenir le meilleur chirurgien travaillant dans ce domaine.

‏En mai, j'ai évacué avec ma famille et quelques animaux de notre zoo privé. C'était très triste et difficile.

Mon père a loué une ferme d'élevage de vaches dans la ville de Khan Yunis, où il était difficile pour nous de vivre en manquant du strict minimum.

Pendant le temps que j'ai passé avec ma famille dans la ville de Khan Yunis, j'ai travaillé au complexe médical Nasser dans le service de médecine interne, où la plupart des cas cliniques étaient des conséquences de la guerre, comme la propagation de l'hépatite due au manque d'assainissement.

‏En moins de deux mois, l'occupation a de nouveau menacé la ville de Khan Yunis. Jusqu'à ce que les scènes de déplacement se répètent dans ma vie, et cette fois, la destination était la ville de Deir al-Balah, où mon père a loué un élevage de poulets. Je vis maintenant à côté d'une cage à lions, ce qui est très difficile et triste pour mon cœur.

Mais pendant cette période, j'ai pu travailler avec la Fondation IRC, et j'étais le chef de l'équipe, alors que nous travaillions bénévolement pour effectuer un examen MUAC pour les enfants de six mois à cinquante-neuf mois pour la malnutrition, car de nombreux cas de malnutrition modérée et de malnutrition sévère sont apparus.

Je ne peux pas voyager avant d'avoir obtenu mes papiers universitaires, ce qui m'oblige à payer tous les frais accumulés au cours de mes années d'université précédentes, qui s'élèvent à environ 19 330 €.

Les fonds seront collectés sur un compte bancaire français et une partie de ces fonds sera ensuite transférée à Dalia à Gaza pour subvenir à ses besoins de base et à ceux de sa famille.

Pour son évacuation, j’enverrai l’argent à son amie Samia en Égypte, afin que celle-ci organise le voyage de Dalia via une agence spécialisée.

Des fonds supplémentaires lui seront transférés en Egypte pour répondre à ses besoins de base après l’évacuation et l’aider à immigrer aux États-Unis.
