Hello to all, my name is Franki Galbraith. One week ago, my partner, Dale Richards, lost movement in his left foot and leg. After a visit to the emergency room, we were told that CT scans and MRIs revealed lesions throughout his body, with three lesions in his spine being the most concerning and needing immediate treatment. Dale has been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer throughout his body. The first priority is treating the spinal lesions with radiation, and we will tackle the rest of his treatment after this first round, once we know more.

Dale is now staying at my house while he undergoes radiation treatments. Unfortunately, my home is not set up for walkers, wheelchairs, or handrails, which makes it difficult for Dale to move safely and comfortably. To help Dale get back and forth for his radiation and other care, I need to install handrails at the steps, ramps, and possibly a chair lift to transport him between floors in our townhome. These modifications are essential for his safety and independence during this challenging time.

Within 48 hours, our whole life was turned upside down. Thank you to my family, friends, school, and team for your love and support. I have now become a caregiver prematurely, and without your encouragement, I don’t think I would have felt up to the task.
