At just 20 years old, Dakota Tobin of Greentown, Indiana, has already faced more challenges than most do in a lifetime. After losing his birth mother at the age of four, Dakota entered foster care and was adopted two years later, at the age of six. Through it all, he grew up with a deep appreciation for family, love, and God. Three years ago, tragedy struck again when his adoptive father lost his battle with cancer—an unimaginable heartbreak that left a lasting mark on the entire family.

Now, painfully, Dakota finds himself fighting a battle of his own. He has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a rare and aggressive form of leukemia more common in children. This diagnosis has turned his life upside down overnight, but he is determined to fight with the same strength and courage his father once showed.

Dakota is currently facing 4 to 6 weeks of intensive, daily chemotherapy while staying in an Indianapolis hospital. Even after that, his journey will be far from over. Doctors expect that he may need a bone marrow transplant, followed by ongoing outpatient treatments lasting months—or even years.

Despite having health insurance, many of the most essential needs are not covered—things like travel costs for hospital visits, medications, special dietary needs, and expenses after he returns home to recover. His family is doing everything they can to be by his side through each appointment, infusion, and scan, but the financial and emotional toll is overwhelming.
