Help Daisy While She Recovers Her Ability To Walk

On November 2, while crossing the street on foot in midtown Manhattan, I was struck by a yellow taxi-cab going 35 miles per hour. The impact fully fractured my hip in 3 places as well as causing major trauma to my legs, ribs, and spine.

Waking up in the operating room after a six hour hip surgery, I was devastated to find out I will be unable to walk for at least nine months to a year. Unable to care for myself for the first time in my life, I am terrified... I am reaching out to ask for financial support to cover basic expenses like rent, food, and physical therapy co-pays, while I re-learn how to walk, and get back to a place where I can return to work and fully support myself again.

As I lay here writing this, not only am I filled with disbelief that this has happened, but I am even more filled with fear; more fear than anything i have felt in my entire life. I am filled with fear of what is to come and how I will get through it all. I am both a person whom is always on the go, and I am a person whom has a really hard time with asking for help. Now I am forced to take a very long time out and my survival basically depends on my asking for help.

I don't know how to continue in life without being able to do for myself as i always have (not to mention, as well as my kids and others). During these past two weeks, I have started to realize just how much help I'm going to need from others if I want to even have a chance to make it...and it's terrifying.

So, here I am friends/family/fellow humans/world: putting my trust and faith in God and others - as I have always believed that all people are inherently good, kind, caring, and helpful. All help is appreciated, including non-monetary forms. Thank you in advance for all of the love, care, kindness, and support.

I left my phlebotomy class and while on my way home, I decided to do DoorDash deliveries for "just an hour" (being that I had recently become anxious about making extra money). Thirty minutes later, while en route to complete a delivery, my entire life changed.

I was at the intersection of East 33rd St and Park Avenue. I was going across the crosswalk, following the flow of pedestrian traffic. I made it halfway across and as I was passing the median to complete the second half, a yellow taxi cab emerged from the underpass... I saw him as he emerged, but he never saw me until he hit me and I rolled up on the hood of his vehicle.

I was fortunate enough to have many passersby whom immediately came to my aid. I was in an ambulance within five minutes and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Although I was in excrutiating pain, I was in total denial of the seriousness of my injury. Two days later, before my surgery, I was shown my x-rays where my pelvis had three fractures that went all the way through, and had my recovery timeline explained to me: I am expected to be on bedrest for two to three months, followed by six months of physical therapy before I am even able to stop using crutches. I will reach 95% recovery in a year. I genuinely don't even know what to do with that information!
