Hi dear friends and dance music supporters—
I’m Dahlia, a Los Angeles-based house and techno vinyl DJ. I have a monthly residency at a party called Perpetual Dawn, as well as playing regularly at many events and clubs across the country.
Last night, a very unfortunate thing happened to me. Between the hours of around 12 midnight and 2 AM (Sunday night/Monday morning of December 12), my car was broken into and my record bag and gear were stolen from my trunk.
I returned home last night at midnight and parked my car in the driveway of my house, just feet from my front door, directly beneath our bright security floodlights. This is a spot I considered to be very safe. I locked up, went inside to make some food and shower, and then went back out to unload my trunk. When I went back out to the car, that's when I realized it was broken into.
I just finished a weekend of gigging at two events in the city— Restless Nites’ Oakland Benefit Party on Friday and Cyclone LA on Sunday. With that being said, my bag was packed full with my most important wax. All very rare dub techno and house vinyl that I’ve been researching and collecting for the last 10+ years.
Many of the titles are irreplaceable, and are definitive to my sound— essentially, they are my tools I need to work. Upon assessing my which records were missing (and their current value on Discogs), my record bag itself, AIAIAI headphones and my handheld recorder, the missing items total to around $3,700.00.
My car was also ransacked— they tore up my dashboard in attempt to steal my stereo, broke many plastic components, and even stole the change out of my cupholder. I don’t care about the car though… I just want my records and gear back! I have a full gig schedule for the upcoming months, and not having these items is debilitating to me doing my work.
I’m heartbroken. I just want to have the means to rebuild a small collection of wax, replace my record bag and my headphones… and even get a tracking device for my bag, one like you’d use for your dog.
This might sound like hopeless optimism, but I don't want to give up. If a miracle happens and my bag is returned to me unharmed, I will cancel this funding campaign immediately.
Please donate whatever you can, and share this post with anyone you can— every little bit helps. I appreciate whatever you guys can do to help. Much love to you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!!
