Help Dad Recover From COVID
Donation protected
To make a long story short, Dad is “lucky #13.” You see, a couple weeks ago he was admitted to the hospital after battling COVID for almost two weeks.

He’d come down with a fever and it stayed between 102-103 deg F for about a week and a half, but then he started to have trouble breathing. He was rushed to the hospital on September 20th when his oxygen % tanked to 66 (normal is in the 90’s).

After a few days, there was no improvement. His breathing had gotten worse, there were microclots in his lungs and pneumonia was prevalent. The steroid treatments hadn’t worked like they do for many, and another type of medication they have been using with COVID patients was giving no hope. The doctor said we had ONE more option before life-flighting him to another facility—convalescent plasma treatment.
With this plasma treatment, they insert a central line into the neck and pump in plasma, rich with antibodies (donated from folks who have already beaten COVID). The idea, from our understanding, is the antibodies help fight the virus and halt further damage (hopefully). The doctor said that they had only treated 12 patients with the plasma therapy, and only 7 had responded. Unfortunately, the other 5 patients had succumbed to the virus and hadn’t made it. I can’t tell you how scary those statistics feel, despite them being over 50%.
After TWO treatments, we saw a big change in Dad. His color got better, he went from the BIPAP (one step below the ventilator), to the nonrebreather mask, and finally back to the vaportherm. Number 13 turned out to be very lucky! I can’t thank those who donate plasma enough—we are eternally grateful
Now that Dad is in the recovery stages, the reality of finances has become a concern. We are SO thrilled to have these worries, because all that truly matters is he is coming HOME. He has a long road to recovery and likely some therapy in his future. We’re not yet sure when he will be able to return to work and he’s already getting towards the end of his vacation/sick-time.
We are asking that anyone who has the means contribute for help with medical costs (what insurance doesn’t cover) and expenses at home due to being out of work. Those who aren’t able to contribute financially, please send prayers, positive vibes, etc. Also, whether you’ve had COVID or not, we urge you to consider donating plasma! You don’t know the lives you might literally SAVE ♥️
We haven’t been able to see Dad in almost 2 weeks and that’s been one of the biggest killers of our family’s morale. We’ve done our best to cheer him on anyway by meeting at the hospital daily and FaceTiming him from outside, bringing him little goodies, etc. Please help us cheer him on by sharing this campaign and easing his stress so he can focus all of his efforts on coming home to us ASAP! Thank you
