In April of 2024, our world was turned upside down when our father, Scott Devich, was diagnosed with melanoma after discovering a lump under his armpit. A chest X-ray soon revealed nodules in his lungs and our family’s journey into the unknown began.

Our dad started immunotherapy, but just two months later, he began experiencing severe headaches. A CT scan and MRI of his brain revealed three tumors. He underwent three days of radiation, which brought some positive news: the lesions shrank. But the road ahead would continue to be full of challenges. In September, during his next immunotherapy session, doctors discovered he had developed immunotherapy-related hepatitis, forcing a halt to his treatment.

Then came November 2024. An MRI showed four new brain lesions, and he underwent another round of radiation. We thought things were improving, but we were devastated to learn we were wrong.

The Sunday after Christmas, our father began experiencing uncontrollable back pain and started falling. We rushed him to the emergency room and after two weeks in the hospital and three more MRIs, he was diagnosed with Leptomeningeal Disease—an incredibly rare and terminal form of cancer that spreads into the cerebrospinal fluid. This diagnosis changed everything. Our dad is now unable to walk and is confined to bed.

Today, he is being cared for around the clock by our mother, Alecia, and by myself and my sisters. The toll this has taken on our family is unimaginable.

As his daughters, we want to do everything in our power to support our mother, who has been nothing short of incredible during this crisis. Our parents, Scott and Alecia, have always been there for others, selflessly giving what they could to help anyone in need. Now, we are asking for help in return.

The financial burden of medical expenses, along with the everyday costs of living, is overwhelming. We want to alleviate as much of that stress as possible so our mother can focus on being there for our dad during this heartbreaking time.
