Help Dad Buy a New Wheelchair
Donativo protegido
Our father was in a motorcycle accident 28 years ago, when his oldest daughter was five years old and his youngest was just 15 months old. This accident left our dad paralyzed from the neck down and the mobility of one arm. Since then he has utilized a battery powered wheelchair he was able to obtain through both his insurance and out of pocket expenses.
Some of our earliest memories of our dad was him driving us around on his wheelchair. One sitting on his lap and the other two each standing on a wheelie bar. We literally drove around town like this, going to daycare, getting donuts from the "donut shop" or going to the "breakfast store". Our father took us everywhere. The wheelchair allowed him to be part of our lives and take us places, even though we couldn't go in a car.
Imagine the independence one would experience finally being able to move around freely after an accident like the one he experienced. I know this was hard for him, especially being able to walk and function like many of us are currently able to do. But to us, regardless of his mobility, he was our hero and like no other father. We didn't see the struggle brought on to him by his lack of mobility and the pain he experienced. We just knew that's our daddy.
Now our father is struggling with mobility again. His current wheelchair is on its last wheels and only holds a charge for a few hours. At this point, even with a new battery his chair does not function properly. We need your help. We are asking for assistance in helping our dad buy a new wheelchair. Although he gets some assistance through his insurance, it is not enough to provide him with a wheelchair that offers what he needs to be comfortable because of the severity of his disability. He is also hoping to have his wheelchair modified so he can drive his van.
He needs this wheelchair to get around his home, out and about to pick up prescriptions, get a snack or even to go to his daughters to visit his grand babies. A new chair would bring joy, increased independence and quality of life.
Thank you,
Courtney, Samantha, and Emily
