Our colleague and friend Cynthia Servetnick, AICP, urgently needs our help to raise funds for Hospice Care in a skilled nursing facility as soon as possible. Cynthia has progressing metastasized Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread into her spine and organs, including her pancreas. She is in excruciating pain, and requires 24/7 care.

She is currently back from MD Anderson in Houston and at UCSF hospital in San Francisco, where she is awaiting transfer into Hospice. Her choice is Coming Home Hospice in San Francisco, but she is looking throughout the Bay Area for potential placement.

Cynthia is now wheelchair bound and she cannot return to her apartment in San Francisco because she cannot enter it in a wheelchair. She needs accessible skilled nursing care now, 24/7 to manage her pain, and she needs our help.

Cynthia has spent her life standing up for communities.

Now she needs her community to stand up for her.

For decades, Cynthia, an architect and urban planner, has dedicated her career and volunteer work to protecting San Francisco’s beautiful historic places, strengthening community participation, and ensuring that residents have a meaningful voice in planning decisions, and making San Francisco more beautiful.

Many of us know her as a thoughtful, committed, and tireless advocate who has generously shared her expertise and energy with preservation, planning, neighborhood, and civic causes.

Cynthia traveled to MD Anderson in Houston for cancer treatment after receiving care at UCSF, but they transferred her into a Houston skilled nursing facility. She finally got home to San Francisco with the help of a generous friend who flew out to meet her and flew her back -- but now she is in tremendous pain and requires 24/7 skilled nursing care, which her insurance does not cover and her fixed retirement income will also not cover.

She also needs funds for alternative health practitioners to continue her fight now that she has exhausted the best mainstream cancer treatments available.

Please consider donating, sharing the fundraiser, or reaching out to colleagues who may know Cynthia through historic preservation, urban planning, architecture, public policy, San Francisco government, neighborhood advocacy, or civic leadership.

Even a small contribution or a thoughtful introduction can make a meaningful difference.
