Help Cynthia recover from brain surgery
Donation protected
My name is Olivia, and I'm one of Cynthia Visser's three children—myself, Hannah, and Jakob. This past Sunday, our mom was rushed to emergency with stroke-like symptoms, where she then had a seizure. After months of being told she had an odd case of carpal tunnel syndrome, a CT scan showed a brain tumour. Initially, the doctors believed she had meningioma, a common and easily treatable tumour. Her MRI results came in today, and the tumour appears to be in her brain rather than outside, likely ruling out meningioma. It's also in a spot that's difficult to operate on.
The neurosurgeon called from Royal Columbian today, and he believes the tumour is malignant. She will go in for hopeful removal next week, where they will do a biopsy at the same time. We are hoping for a hospital transfer to Royal Columbian ASAP so she can get more specialized care. She is currently unable to move her right arm and is having difficulty walking, and her symptoms are progressing every day. The process is made much slower and emotionally toiling by hospital overcrowding.
My mom has tirelessly provided for our household for most of our lives—she even went back to school to become an educational assistant and works multiple jobs to support our family. She is well loved at the schools she works at and always considers others; she loves the kids she works with. My mom deserves much more than the world has given her right now, but we take faith in her strength at such a difficult time.
Her income is not very high, and this situation will take big a toll on our entire family, but especially our mother. We're hoping to raise as much as possible to make up for lost income from her contractor jobs, and to allow her to exhaust all her sick leave without worrying about finances. She will likely need quite some time and rehabilitation before she can return to her regular activities, and the last thing I'd want is for her to be worrying about money or groceries in a time like this. If you can't donate, please share, pray, and keep our mother in your thoughts.
All money raised will go directly to our mother, and used toward lost income, recovery, and essentials. A mealtrain link may be added soon as well.
