Hello everyone! It’s me, Cynthia, finally, I know. I hope you all are good. I am doing well, so no need to worry! I am a Stockton born native, UOP alum, Gamma alum, and PEK alum. I also grew up with my sisters playing sports in Linden, I worked as an adjunct professor at UOP and volunteered at Saint Joseph for the diabetes exercise program, the cancer survivor exercise program, and their child obesity exercise program.
If you are seeing this, it’s probably because you know of me and my story. For those of you that don’t, it’s pretty insane that I’m alive today. I had a severe stroke in May of 2020, where I was given less than a 1% chance of survival. However God and neuroplasticity is unexplainable sometimes. Following the stroke, I was in a coma for several months and suffered from locked-in syndrome until about 6 months post-stroke. It took several months for me to learn to communicate, move, and breathe again. After spending over a year in several hospitals, I was able to come home. Today, I struggle with a lot of things, but it is nothing compared to how little I could do when I first started my journey to recovery. I am an example of a miracle, and I have God and all of you to thank for this blessing.
Since my stroke, I have learned the journey to recovery isn’t cheap. We do all that we can financially, but my resources are severely limited by my disability. For six years, my parents have helped me so much in my efforts to be independent again. We have traveled to different cities, states, hospitals, thousands of appointments—all the while they have been incredibly loving and supportive.
Since my stroke, many of you have asked how you can help me. This is your chance. As minimal as it may be, I appreciate every donation that is made! Thank you for your support.
