Living with COPD and emphysema has changed every part of my life. Simple activities like showering, dressing, or cooking now leave me exhausted and short of breath. Walking even short distances, climbing stairs, or carrying groceries requires frequent rest. Nights are often restless due to breathing difficulties and chronic coughing, leaving me tired and drained during the day. The invisible nature of this illness can be isolating, and I sometimes avoid social outings because of the stigma of using oxygen in public or the fear of being a burden to loved ones. Even the weather can dictate my daily routine, making it hard to plan ahead or feel in control.
The costs of managing this disease are overwhelming. I need supplemental oxygen, portable concentrators, and adaptive tools like rolling walkers or a motorized scooter to maintain my independence. Medications, pulmonary rehabilitation, and home modifications—like stairlifts or extra seating—are all essential but expensive. I also need help with daily living, from meal preparation and housework to transportation for medical appointments. On top of that, being unable to work has made the financial strain even heavier.
As many of you know, I am currently on the journey toward a lung transplant. It is a path filled with hope, but also significant challenges. While the gift of life is priceless, the costs surrounding it—medical bills, post-operative care, and lifelong medications—are overwhelming. I am reaching out today to ask for your support. Whether it’s a donation to my fundraiser or simply sharing this post with your own network, every gesture brings me one step closer to breathing freely again. I am endlessly grateful for the love and strength you’ve already shown me. Thank you for being part of my village and for helping me fight for a second chance at life.
