Hello! My name is Cynthia Guthrie, and I need help to stay in my home. I'm not one who normally asks for help, but it's time to put my pride aside and throw a hail mary out there. My life companion of 50 years, Wes, passed away last week. Because we weren't legally married, and California doesn't recognize common law marriage, I not only lost my partner and closest friend, I lost his income as well. I am a senior lady on social security and make very little. We bought a mobile home together, and I make enough to pay the space rent, but will have very little left for utilities and other bills. He paid most of the bills, and most groceries including dog and cat food. Without his income, I am in real danger of losing my home. I'm not the only one affected by this. We have a fur family, and if I lose my home, I won't be able to take them with me. We have a senior Chihuahua, Sunny, who was extremely bonded to him, a total Daddy's dog. I can't imagine him having to be in a kennel for who knows how many months. I would rather have him put to sleep and be with his dad. We also have two cats. Raphael was a Hurricane Harvey rescue from Houston, and either he was feral when rescued or had severe PTSD. When we adopted him, he had been at a rescue for years and had been adopted and brought back twice. When we brought him home, he hid under the couch for literally 3 months, only coming out at night when we were asleep. We have had him for about 3 years now, and he loves to be petted but is still very skittish and won't let us pick him up. I could tell that he was lonely. At the shelter, he had been in an open common room with other cats, and I could tell that he needed a friend. We went to a different shelter and adopted a big ol' lovebug named Pierre, but I call him Tuxie. He is Raphael's emotional support cat, and they are very bonded. The thought of having to take them back where they came from rips my heart out. Any help at all in keeping my home and our fur family together would have my undying gratitude. I appreciate you reading my story, thank you!
