Doña Cutucu is 7yr+ king pigeon, whom I rescued. She has always been such an active and joyful bird, always looking for something to eat or fly on to. She is the has the funniest personality in the family . Recently, though, I noticed a heartbreaking change—she became unusually quiet, stopped walking and flying, and began having trouble breathing. When she refused to eat for hours and started vomiting, I knew something was seriously wrong.

We rushed Cutucu to the Emergency Vet, where the staff treated her with so much kindness. She was placed in an incubator, which helped regulate her breathing, but her condition remained fragile. The vets offered to sedate her for testing, but she was so weak that it would have been too risky. Instead, we brought her home with medication, hoping she would recover in a familiar environment. Sadly, Cutucu didn’t improve like we hoped so we made an appointment with another vet. The vet told us she is swollen with liquid. She was able to remove some and then figured out what caused it. It was a oviduct tumor, that was the scariest news. We were given the option to take her to a medical center where we decided to go forward with surgery to give her the best chance of survival. It was scary because we weren’t sure if she was going to be okay.

Yet she was.. she made it out of surgery an we were so happy. Everything looked positive, her feathers were looking the healthiest. He energy was back to normal and everything was good for a month.

Until 3 days ago, where energy levels dropped, stool changed, and appetite decreased. Yesterday we took her back to the vet and they let us know the cancer made it back. We are so confused and scared. The doctor recommended us to start chemo and hormone injections right away. We did, hopefully with everything it goes away permanently. But with everything, we aren’t certain. We are worried about the future but hopeful Cutucu is strong and can battle it.

The costs of emergency care and ongoing treatment have quickly added up, and we’ve had to rely on credit cards and loans to cover her bills. I’m reaching out for help because I want to do everything possible to help Cutucu heal and continue living her best life. Any support you can offer would mean the world to us and help give Cutucu the care she desperately needs. Thank you.

Today she had her visit with the vet and we have gotten the worst news. My gorda has cancer. We have two options, take care of her until she passes or try all we can to save her. We choose to take all possible steps to save her.
