Hi everyone,
I’ve been looking after this sweet little boy who has been straying in my area for a while. He’s recently taken to sleeping on my doorstep and waiting for me morning and night, and I have taken to calling him Custard.
He's been looking worse for wear and quite battered recently so I got him to the vets this week, where they have advised that he is not chipped or neutered, and is FIV positive.
I’ve been told by the vets that their protocol is if no one comes forward by the end of 7 days (Tuesday 4th August), they will put him to sleep. FIV cats generally can’t live with other cats (unless they also have it), meaning most shelters won’t take them in and I myself can't keep him for risk of putting my own cat in danger of contracting the disease.
He just deserves a quiet life off the streets, and I can’t bare the thought of him being put to sleep through no fault of his own (or the vets, this is just the policy and is just the way it is unfortunately). FIV won't kill him, and it isn't dangerous to people.
Right now our focus is getting him neutered and healthy so he has the best shot at finding a home. The cost breakdown estimate is:
£140 for neuter
£50 de-worm 3 months
£50 de-flea for 3 months
£10 tape worm tablet 1 month
£30 for a microchip (ready to have his forever home address logged)
Anything we raise that does not go directly to Custard will be donated to Catwel.
Equally, if anyone is interested or knows someone who might be, even just on a temporary basis, he just needs a loving home where he is the only pet (or 1 other FIV positive cat). He is such a sweetheart, even the vets said they were all fussing him because he’s so lovely.
I massively appreciate any help - thanks.
