WOW WE REACHED 100K!!! ❤️
We are still actively accepting donations to support Curtis’s care, including ongoing treatments, medical expenses, specialized dietary needs, and travel for out-of-town appointments and consultations.
THE GOAL: We are raising $100,000 to fund 10 cycles of Enhertu, a targeted cancer treatment for Curtis that is not covered by OHIP or private insurance. Each cycle costs $10,000, and every dollar donated goes directly toward giving this young father more time with his family.
Hi everyone, our names are Michelle and Jennifer, and we are close friends of Curtis and Megan. We have started this page because we’ve seen firsthand how Curtis is always the first person to show up for others without ever asking for anything in return. Now, he’s facing the fight of his life, and we are asking our community to show up for him.
Curtis is the kind of person everyone hopes to have in their life — kind, easygoing, and always the first to lend a hand. He makes people feel comfortable the moment they’re around him, never asking for anything in return. If there’s a way to help himself without burdening others, he’ll take it — every time.
He’s a devoted husband, a proud father to two beautiful young daughters (ages 1 and 3), a loving son, brother, and a loyal friend. Curtis is full of life, with a great sense of humor and a playful spirit that lights up every room — especially at home, where his daughters adore him and his wife cherishes him deeply. He’s the dad on the floor playing, the one making dinner, doing dishes, and soaking up every moment with his girls. He even proudly jokes about being “Dr. Barker” after helping deliver his oldest daughter and single-handedly delivering his youngest.
In September 2024, everything changed.
Curtis was diagnosed with Stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). He underwent a Whipple surgery, and while Megan’s private insurance covers the essential daily medications required afterward, the road since then has been incredibly difficult.
Curtis has endured first-line chemotherapy and immunotherapy, followed by second-line chemotherapy, and radiation. Along the way, he has faced multiple hospitalizations, including pneumonia (twice), a blood infection, influenza A, and colitis. The disease has progressed, spreading to his liver, lymph nodes, and spine. Today, he is undergoing radiation for pain management, as even strong medications are no longer enough. The man who was always up and moving, caring for his family and filling his home with laughter, is now often confined to the couch.
But there is hope.
At Princess Margaret Hospital, testing revealed that Curtis’s tumor is HER2 3+ positive — opening the door to a promising targeted treatment called Enhertu. This therapy offers a real chance to slow the disease and give Curtis more time with the people he loves most.
Unfortunately, Enhertu is not funded in Ontario and is not covered by private insurance.
Curtis has spent his life showing up for others. Now, we’re asking for your help to show up for him. Please consider donating, and if you’re able, sharing this page — it truly means the world to Curtis, Megan, and their girls.
Let’s give Curtis the fighting chance he deserves. ❤️
