On July 8, 2021, my brother Curt’s wife, Sheri, was bitten by a neighbor’s dog. What seemed like a simple injury turned into a life-altering battle with CPS infection, leaving her with permanent nerve damage and eventually a diagnosis of MS—two struggles she would face for the rest of her life.

Then, in September of 2023, Curt became gravely ill. On October 1st, after being rushed to the ER, doctors had to bring him back to life three times in one day. Severe infections and internal bleeding left him with major damage to his hips and knees. Despite needing rehab, due to insurance errors with Sheri’s employer, he was sent home in a wheelchair with no coverage. He eventually lost his job, the company closed, and the bills piled up.

Through it all, Sheri continued to work—pushing through pain to support their family. Curt encouraged her to take a short trip to rest with friends. Tragically, while away, Sheri unexpectedly stopped breathing. On that night, Curt lost his wife, his partner, his hero, and the love of his life. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother whose loss leaves a hole in all of our hearts.

Sheri had wished to be cremated, but with no life insurance, no savings, and mounting debt, Curt cannot afford even this final act of love for her. He is also struggling to keep up with house and car payments, and the home urgently needs roof repairs before winter.
