Hisham's little boy, 16-month-old Hashim, has an aggressive malignant tumour in his liver and needs urgent life-saving medical care.

Hashim's story

Earlier this year, Hisham's little boy Hashim came down with a case of jaundice. After travelling 500 kilometres from Kampala, Uganda to Nairobi, Kenya, 1.5-year-old Hashim had to undergo a biopsy of his liver which confirmed a malignant and aggressive tumour in his liver. The specific type of tumour he has is still unknown, though neither likely diagnosis (hepatoblastoma or rhabdoid tumour) will be easy for Hashim and his doctors to fight. This is compounded by a large vein travelling through the tumour, making it more difficult and more dangerous to excise completely.

To get the best care possible, Hashim needs more specialised doctors than he has access to in Kenya. His family is currently in contact with doctors in India who have suggested immediate chemotherapy combined with a larger, more invasive biopsy to be sure of his diagnosis.

None of this will be cheap. Hashim's family has already spent over £10,000 on his care in Uganda and Kenya, and the care in India combined with applications for emergency visas and support for his family will continue racking up the medical costs.

The tumour is fast growing and as such needs immediate action. This means that we as a community supporting Hashim and his family need to act just as immediately. While we still have no firm estimate for Hashim's medical costs, we cannot afford to delay treatment over money. We hope you can donate soon to help Hashim and his family in this extremely difficult situation.

How your money will be used

First and foremost, any funds raised will be spent directly on medical treatment and care for Hashim, flights for him and his family to obtain said care, and any housing costs incurred while he's abroad. If we are lucky enough to raise more than is required to directly support his treatments, the rest will be saved in a trust to ensure his future health.
