Help Cubby Recover from MUE

Cubby is very a energetic, happy and talkative boy. I adopted him during a difficult time of my life, and he brought in all the light I needed to keep going. He is my biggest love. I'd do anything to keep him healthy and safe, and give back all the love and joy he brings me.

About 6 months ago, everything changed . In a matter of days Cubby seemed to stop moving. He was in so much pain that he'd lie completely still; only moving his eyes to follow me. His neck stayed very low, he could barely stand, and he was so weak that he would scream just at the anticipation of being picked up.

The following months were a roller coaster with many vet visits, a couple of ER visits and a lot of test- bloodwork, fecal test, urine test, X-rays, ultrasound- to try and find out what was wrong. He was put in different medications, had an allergic reaction and suffered side effects that were just causing him to decline even more. For weeks, we thought he had disc disease and I kept him in strict conservative care at home. He wasn't able to stand on his own, so I had to cay him out for potty breaks.
On Christmas Day he completely collapsed and couldn’t lift his head high enough to reach even an elevated bowl.

Cubby is now under the care of a vet neurologist, who believes he has developed an autoimmune mediated disease called MUE (Meningoencephalomyelitis of Unknown Etiology) . MUE is a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the brain and spinal cord. Treatment requires high-dose corticosteroids, followed by a very slow, careful taper that can take up to a year. The goal is to either come off completely or reach the lowest dosage possible he can be kept on for life.

His diagnoses was based on MRI and a CSF analysis - a process in which fluid is collected from the brain and spinal cord and which requires general anesthesia.

After all the ups and downs, he is finally responding to treatment and slowly coming back to himself. He hadn't barked in months and would choke when trying, but he's finally been able to let out some soft barks.

With all vet visits, exams, emergency care and treatment I have spent close to $10,000 - the MRI alone costing $4171.04.
I am hoping to raise funds to help me cover at least the cost of the MRI.

I have faith my boy will recover, but I worry about what the next year of treatment may bring.
If you are able to help my Cubby in any way, I will always be grateful.

Thank you and much light.
