Help CSL3 End the Year on Solid Ground
Donation protected
I've been a journalist for over 12 years. It's great work that, as an activist, I've always found fulfilling. I never got paid a lot, but it was enough to be sustainable.
Unfortunately, this year has been tougher than usual:
- there was a death of someone close which cost us several unforeseen expenses;
- I got Ellis-evicted from my home of many years so that the landlord could gut-and-flip the place;
- my now-former housemate infected me with COVID, but I was unable to afford the Paxlovid medication that would have expedited my recovery;
- I finally moved into the room you see in the cover photo (the place is a dump, but that's another story) but rent has left me unable to pay for many basics (I joined a food bank not to starve, as seen below);
- on top of all of that: the news outlets for which I regularly write have been financially forced to cut back on the work they can accept from me each month. In other words, I'm being paid less.
Though I try to remain optimistic through my activism and arts journalism, optimism alone won't keep me from being kicked out at the end of this month if I don't come up with the payments soon. Despite the amount of work I've already done, I'm still short.
That's why I'm asking for a little help in getting me over. The amount I'm asking will get me through the end of December (rent, monthly payments for phone and other subscriptions, and groceries not included in my weekly food bank run) and give me piece-of-mind going into January, when some of the outlets are hoping to dole out more work for me. Whether they do or not, your donation will help me keep my head above water as I solidify a game plan - I will not be in this position this time next year.
Whether you know my writing, know me personally, or just empathize with a struggling someone who believes in both social justice and personal safety, I hope you'll donate.
At the very least, I hope you'll share this campaign with as many people as possible. Thank you for your help.
