HELP CRYSTAL VEAL IN THE FIGHT OF HER LIFE
For those of you who don't know my remarkable friend Crystal, here is her story.

I met Crystal 4 years ago. It was my first day of work as a care giver at Trails of Orono, an assisted living/memory care facility. We hit it off immediately because of her amazing work ethic and compassion for the residents. Crystal and I come from two different worlds but that didn't stop us from forging an immediate bond. She has become one of the most important people in my life and that is why I am sharing her story with you.

Crystal grew up in Faribault, MN. She is 34, the oldest of four children and has been taking care of others her entire life. Crystal has overcome many seemingly insurmountable obstacles in her short life and now she is facing her biggest challenge yet.

CANCER REARS IT'S UGLY HEAD

At age 30, as a single mother of three young girls, she received the news nobody ever wants to hear. Crystal was diagnosed with Stage 4, inflammatory breast cancer which is the most aggressive type. She endured a mastectomy followed by radiation and a year of chemotherapy. Throughout that tumultuous year, Crystal continued to work non-stop double shifts at work. The only time she missed work were the days she was required to be at her chemo treatments. She was right back at it the very next mornings, ready to work even though she was miserable with all the terrible side effects that chemo and radiation bring. Crystal worked harder than anyone and never wanted anyone's pity. She was an inspiration to many of us who worked alongside her during this time.

A NEW NORMAL

Crystal's cancer left her alone for a while and she was able to return her full focus to the things she cared about most. Being the best mother, daughter, sister, friend and co-worker is what was most important to her. The highlight of this time was giving birth to a beautiful baby boy. Life was good and the quality family time that she was now enjoying was more precious than ever.

BACK WITH A VENGEANCE

December 11, 2019, sitting alone in the ER at Abbott Northwestern hospital in Minneapolis, Crystal heard the devastating news that caused her entire world to fall apart. Her cancer was back and it was everywhere. It was in her liver, lungs, lymph nodes and bones. Two weeks later, she was told that it had also spread to her brain. Obviously, the challenges this time around are much, much greater. She has had to take a leave of absence from work. She has begun the aggressive treatments recommended by her team of doctors. This leaves her weak and unable to be the hands-on mom she loves to be. Crystal currently requires round-the-clock care. As you can imagine, her girls are experiencing renewed heartache watching their brave mother fight this battle for a second time.

THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW

Crystal's medical bills are piling up quickly. Without an income, so are her household expenses. The fact that she currently needs to rely on others to do the cooking, cleaning and driving is not easy for someone so fiercely independent. The funds raised will go towards paying her bills and supporting her children, ages 16, 14, 12 and 1. Anything you can do to help benefit Crystal and her family would be a true blessing.

GRATITUDE

I would like to thank everyone in advance for any potential donation to this worthy cause. Please know that Crystal is appreciative of the support and kindness being shown to her. This fight is one of mind, body and spirit, taking every ounce of energy to sustain each day. I have witnessed profound changes in Crystal with her reliance on the power of prayer. She is putting her trust in God and displaying true humility in accepting help from others.

This story would not be complete without a big shout out to Crystal's amazingly supportive family
who have been with her every step of the way. Her mother Melissa, has taken time off from her own job to be with Crystal for her day to day needs and taking her to all of her appointments. Her brother John, and sister-in-law Heather, have been taking care of the children and managing the finances for Crystal until she gets back on her feet again. And of course, her kids are helping out in immense ways as well, which makes Crystal a very proud mom! Words cannot express how much her family loves her and is contributing to her healing and well-being!

Thank you for taking the time to read Crystal's story. I am honored having her in my life, one of God's greatest gifts to me.

With gratitude in Jesus Christ,
