Help Me Rebuild After the Hurricane

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Hearts,

I’m reaching out to share my story in the hope of finding support during one of the toughest times of my life. Recently, my home was devastated by both Hurricane Helene and Milton, leaving me without shelter and precious belongings. The impact of this disaster has been overwhelming, not only emotionally but also financially.

I am facing the same challenges of rebuilding my life from scratch just like my entire community here in Tampa. As you all know, it is just me taking all this responsibility on, and needless to say, it has been extremely overwhelming and will be a tough process while trying to rebuild my home. The repairs needed are extensive, and I am also in urgent need of necessities such as furniture and temporary housing. While I am grateful to be safe, the road ahead is daunting. As a native to Bradenton, my entire family is also affected and we are all trying to help each other build slowly but we have to focus on each of our homes at the same time.

I was told to give more information around what specifically the money will be used for. It’s a lot but I will just name a few major items. Anyone that knows me, knows I never ask for help. And everyone knows that my home was my peace.

• Lodging costs (flood insurance doesn’t pay for being displaced in your home).

• Upfront cost for demo, general contractor, and rebuild materials. About 15k upfront; insurance is not paying out quick enough and workers have already started the work. and then there is FEMA.

• Unfortunately, pool (cage, screen, pump, filter), dock, and boat lift are not covered by insurance.

• Overall damage will cost close to 200k.
