On December 10th, 2025, our dear friends John and Crystal Vanderwolf will be undergoing a life-changing and deeply courageous surgery. John is in need of a kidney transplant — and in what truly feels like an act of God, his wife Crystal is not only by his side, but is also a perfect match and will be donating her kidney to save his life.
John’s medical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. He has survived three heart transplants, and in 2019, he received a life-giving kidney from his sister Jill, who stepped forward with so much love and hope for his future. That kidney is now sadly rejecting, bringing them to this next critical step. Through every trial, John has fought with remarkable strength, and Crystal has supported him in every way she possibky can.
This past year has been incredibly difficult. John has not been able to work for over a year due to the severity of his illnesses, which ultimately led to end-stage renal disease and the rejection of his previous transplant. He has been fighting for disability benefits through this long and stressful process — adding even more weight to an already overwhelming time for their family.
Between John’s complex medical needs, extensive hospital stays, and the daily demands of managing his care, life has been physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting. Even with Crystal working tirelessly — including taking on a second job this past year — the strain of medical costs and everyday expenses has been immense.
During their transplant and recovery, they will face increased medical bills, travel costs, recovery-related needs, and all the everyday expenses that don’t pause during moments like these.
