Help Crystal buy a new wheelchair!

Help us support the super-talented young performer, Crystal Nguyen, to continue her remarkable journey as an artist with lots to give and plenty to say.

An emerging performing arts “Triple-Threat” (actor-singer-dancer), 25-year-old Crystal has deservedly found a welcoming home in Western Australia's art scene since arriving from Vietnam in 2015 to study at Curtin University. In her short time here, Crystal (who lives with Brittle Bone Disease and uses a powered wheelchair full-time) has performed & devised with Black Swan State Theatre, Fringe World, WA Youth Theatre Company and Perth Festival and in numerous local independent theatre productions, including most recently, Emma Fishwick’s contemporary dance piece ‘From Here, Together’ at the State Theatre Centre.

After kickstarting her performance career on Vietnam’s Got Talent with her stunning singing voice at just 15, Crystal found herself an unwitting spokesperson about the lived experience of disability in her home country, becoming a Youth Ambassador for UNICEF Vietnam. Today she continues to make an impact as an artist by advocating for inclusion and authentic representation of disabled folks on stage, speaking at industry panels & advisory boards– and by being a warm, genuine, hard-working, and universally-liked performer whose star is on the rise!

In 2021, Sensorium Theatre were delighted to invite Crystal to join the company as a co-devisor and performer on their new immersive theatre show for children with disability, ‘Wonderbox’, which she’ll be performing in at its world premiere in early 2022.

There’s just one problem. Crystal’s trusty wheelchair is older than she is and is holding her back - and she urgently needs to raise money to buy a replacement. These chairs are incredibly expensive and need to be custom fit to the user for maximum postural health and as Crystal isn’t yet an Australian citizen, she’s not eligible for financial support.
