In the early hours of this morning, around 2am my mom and brother experienced something no one should ever have to go through. They lost their home and loving dog to a devastating fire. The fire started on their neighbors balcony and spread quickly. The condo was owned by my mom and it was not covered under insurance at the time.
We just learned that they will need approximately one year of alternative living arrangements while still paying condo dues of $288 a month plus tax payments. The condo association will only cover the structure and then it will be up to my mom to pay for everything from the Sheetrock to all appliances and fixtures. This will be a heavy burden out of pocket as the unit was not covered under insurance.
Inside the house was my mom and her dog, Zuko, who alerted her to a fire. Zuko got scared and ran back into the condo as they were trying to make it through the smoke down the stairs. She saved my mom’s life but Zuko didn’t make it back out and passed away.
While we are beyond grateful that my mom and brother are safe, the fire has taken most everything they owned, we were able to salvage a few clothes from two closets, some photos and some other items, but most everything else outside the couple closets we were unable to salvage due to fire, smoke and water damage.
l am devastated and heartbroken. Watching her and my brother lose so much is something I can’t put into words. That’s why I’ve started this fundraiser, to help them rebuild their lives, piece by piece.
Any donation - big or small, will go directly towards supporting them and their family as they begin the long and difficult process of starting over. Your kindness will help cover basic essentials like clothes, food, accommodation, furniture and hopefully give my mom and my brother get a new place to live.
If you can’t give, please share this page to spread the word. Every act of kindness will make a difference in helping them get back on their feet.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion and support during this time.
With love and gratitude,
Bryn (Daughter of my mom, Crystal and sister of my brother Darrell Jr)
