Dean and Crystal are in a financial crisis and we need help!
We've had a very generous friend come through and is extending us a personal loan that has covered the past due IPL Electric & Citizens Gas bills, so those two issues have been resolved. I've adjusted the GoFundMe goal amount down from $4600 to $2600 to reflect that. We are extremely grateful to have that very worrisome situation taken care of.
There are still several other very important items that are well past due and need to be resolved as soon as possible including registration of our vehicle, getting both our car & home insurance reinstated, and getting a couple bank accounts out of the negative.
What we are asking for is a loan. We will eventually be able to get a home equity loan and will repay all the GoFundMe donations that are made to us (with interest).
How we got to this point:
We are blessed to own our home free and clear and have only a small amount of debt. With that much equity, we thought there would be no problem securing a small home equity loan to take care of some expected expenses we were anticipating. We also ran into a couple of unexpected house-related expenses over the summer. We started the loan process in the spring. Unfortunately, some unknown credit issues prevented us from getting any type of financing done.
We would have been able to deal with not getting the home equity loan, but Crystal’s paycheck from her job at PNC Bank started being garnished over $500 per month due to a couple of medical bills her family had incurred several years ago. The garnishment started nine months ago and is still in place, but should be resolved after her next paycheck.
The combination of these two issues put us in a severe cash flow crunch. Once we got behind on a few bills, the late fees and overdraft charges started piling up and left us continually scrambling to shuffle any available money around to take care of what was most urgent.
We've tried everything we could think of to get this situation resolved before it came down to this crisis point. We have applied for loans from virtually every lender out there. We've sold & hocked jewelry and other personal items. We've applied with the township Trustee and other agencies only to be denied any assistance. We did get a very appreciated loan from a relative, but that only delayed the problems for a couple of months. We have bought time with all the different service providers in the hopes of being able to come up with a solution.
While we have been blessed to have someone help us with the past due electric, gas, and water bills, there are several other payments that remain past due and put us at risk in different ways, so we still need to come up with some money quickly to pay these past due bills.
There is light at the end of the tunnel once we get past this crisis. Crystal is doing great at her job and has received a couple different promotions already. We will be receiving a significant tax refund soon. I am applying for Social Security Disability (something I should have done several years ago) and, based on my current medical conditions, should get approved, although that will likely take some time. We will be in a position to get our credit issues resolved and obtain a refinance loan within the next couple years, at which point, we'll be able to pay back all the donations we get (with interest).
We don't like that we are in this position of asking friends and relatives for financial help, but this is the situation we are in. I apologize to the people we've already asked if they are seeing this request again. We do understand that most people are probably not in a financial position that allows them to help us in this way. I also apologize for being so long-winded and probably overexplaining everything.

*Crystal was recently diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. This condition along with other medical issues have caused her to be in a constant high level of pain for a while now. On Wednesday morning she had a pain pump surgically implanted to deliver pain relief medication. She is still recovering from the surgery which would make the loss of our utilities that much more of a disaster.
