Help Crow Get Top Surgery
Hey I’m Crow and I’m a queer transmasc in my first year of medical transition. While I am excited for the opportunity to be myself, I am still struggling with debilitating dysphoria. One of the main ways I experience dysphoria is in regards to my chest. I bind everyday and I still struggle with it psychologically. Making matters more complicated and urgent, last Fall I was told I was at a very high risk for breast cancer (50% chance).
I was on track to have my top surgery (double mastectomy) done in Louisiana, but the one doctor who was taking new Medicaid patients for this kind of gender affirming care left abruptly. The system is overwhelmed and many are scrambling to find a way. I am fortunate to have a friend living in Colombia, SA where this type of medical care is top-of-the-line and much more affordable! I am now scheduled for surgery with Dr. Alvaro H. Rodriguez on August 17, 2021. Dr. Rodriguez is becoming world-renowned for some of the work he is doing in trans medical care and has been performing these surgeries regularly for the past 5 years. It is my hope that by going this route I can forge a new and viable pathway to share with my community.
By helping me reach my goal, you will not only help me cover the cost of the surgery itself, but also some of the surrounding expenses: travel, follow ups, as well as at least a month of not being able to work. Please give what you can. Any overhead of necessary expenses will go to Red Comunitaria Trans (a Colombian-based NGO building safe havens for trans women in danger). Colombians have suffered a lot this year, and I’d love to be able to give something back.
I really want to say from my heart that I don’t consider my surgery cosmetic or even optional. I would honestly go to any length to bring my embodiment more inline with my truth, and I’ll be forever grateful to all the people and places who help make that happen. Please share this link with anyone you think would support me and this cause.
Much love and appreciation,
Crow
