Help Cristyn Power Into University Life

Hi there!

I’m Cristyn, I am 18 years old and I love singing, playing the trumpet, reading and baking. I am going to uni to study Nutrition and Dietetics in September and am super excited! I have always loved travelling and exploring new places but since becoming a wheelchair user 2.5 years ago this has become limited.

Chronic health conditions, mean I often have to rely on other people to push my chair due to fatigue and pain. My wheelchair is my independence and I want to get some power wheels (yes, how cool do they sound!) that will allow me to travel further including up more hilly terrain. I would love to have this kind of independence at university so I can access my course and social activities, and keep up with my peers.

Having these wheels would really open so many opportunities for me, like going travelling, attending hospital appointments by myself and just being spontaneous without needing to organise transport everywhere I want to go. For example, since my diagnosises I have been unable to take my dog Amber on longer walks and new wheels would allow me to go walking with my family again. Also, my sister is going to Canada next year and I would love to be able to go and visit her!

PS: A quick note from Cristyn’s big sister! Cristyn has had such a full on couple of years but has worked so hard to get to where she is. It would be so nice to see her independence blossom and I know these wheels would make such a difference to her. I am so proud of the young woman she has become and it would be reassuring to know that when she moves away from home to go to uni she has everything she needs to reach her full potential, thank you for all your support!
