Help Cristina with Medical and Personal Expenses

2020 was a challenging year for many of us, in so many different ways.  Specifically for us, 2020 changed the life of one of our closest friends: Cristina Dominguez.  In June 2020, Cristina was in a severe car accident, resulting in an extensive spinal cord injury.  We are so thankful to the Beaumont ICU team for taking care of her in that first critical month and ensuring she was able to move to the next step in her recovery journey.  

In the months that followed, Cristina’s recovery progressed in ways many believed impossible.  With the help of the staff at Vibra of Southeast Michigan and the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Cris was able to wean off of the ventilator, and progress from being limited to communicating with eye movement to moving her head and then slowly rebuilding her ability to speak. Words grew to sentences, and before long, her speech was fluent.  It was great to hear her voice after so many months!

Many of you who know Cristina know that she is fierce, resilient, and a fighter.  She does not give up!  She showed this over and over, pushing herself through occupational and physical therapy.  Her dedication produced terrific results as she started to improve her fine motor skills.  We all felt so much joy and hope!

Though she has come a long way since June, this is only a small part of her journey – one that started with facing so much adversity, one that required so much strength – mind over matter – the kind of adversity that most would not survive.

Cristina still has a long road ahead of her on the path to continue rebuilding her life and furthering the progress she has made to regain movement and sensory function.  We are asking for your help in raising funds that will assist Cristina with the immediate living and medical expenses as she continues her recovery. 

A special thank you to many of our friends and colleagues who have continued to send cards, cheering thoughts, and most importantly, reminding Cristina that she is not alone in this fight – we are there to support her.  Thank you very much for contributing to this fund!
