Hello, my name is Cristian and I am begging for your help to raise money to pay for my astronomical medical bills, and ongoing medical care/medicines.
On March 6, 2015, I was diagnosed with myelofibrosis, a rare and aggressive cancer of the blood that, among other horrible symptoms, hardens the bone marrow.
The picture I am holding is what I looked like just before diagnosis and this is what I look like today. I was 53 years old when I was diagnosed. A 9 month trial medication failed and left me with severe and excruciating neuropathy in both of my legs and feet.
In order to give me a fighting chance, my hematology team recommended a bone marrow transplant which was to take place 6 weeks after my spleen was removed, to accommodate said transplant, on January 30/18. This surgery went horribly wrong. My wife who was by my side 24/7 found me unable to breath the next night and it was discovered that both my lungs had been punctured during the surgery. This required emergency procedures on both lungs. The next night it was discovered that my diaphragm had been perforated - another emergency procedure.
The above was followed by multiple lung procedures, heart infection and excruciating procedures to fix this, stomach and multiple leg blood clots, severe bladder infections, incorrect medication provided to me giving me C difficile, and failing kidneys and spending 9 and 1/2 months in hospital last year. These are just the complications and not the cancer symptoms themselves. As you can see from the above picture, I have blood clots in my eyes - caused by one of the anti-clotting medications. I am emaciated, having lost over 80 pounds. This weight loss continues at an alarming weekly rate. My cancer has now jumped outside of my bone marrow and is attacking my organs. I need to access options outside of Canada as soon as possible.
A month ago my wife and I were given a punch to the stomach when the transplant team said that the damage to my lungs was so severe that I now only have one lung functioning at a 17% capacity, leaving me ineligible for a transplant. There are no more options in Canada, but there are trials and options in the U.S. that I want to access and that requires lots of money.
The innumerable medications I have been on and others that I continue to require have left my wife and I financially ruined. My medical bills have taken priority over my wife who cannot afford to take her own medication for her auto-immune disease. I have not been able to work since Jan./18 and had my wife not stayed by my side at the hospital every day and night and cared for me and insisted that the doctors not do certain procedures on me, there is no doubt I would be in a dark, cold box right now. I am unable to do much for myself and my wife's unwavering care has also adversely affected her income. The creditors are knocking at the door and we have no way of paying at this point.
Thank you for taking the time to read my request, your donation and for sharing this with anyone who can help. My wife and I are sincerely and forever grateful.
