Hello friends!
I'm Finn Benham, and I'm raising money for my film, Prysmion. It's a story told through many different forms, including puppets, a fictional interview segment, a play-within-a-play, and many more fun surprises. The story is about the depth of our experiences, the overwhelming wholeness (and brokenness) of the universe, the strength in our smallest connections, Hope, Remembrance, Sadness, and Decadence.
"There is a prophecy I will share with you, and it is as follows - when the Persimmon and the Magpie's love comes to an end, and The Very Good Boy barks his last bark, The Woman with the Red Shoes On will meet someone Otherworldly, and together they will begin The End."
-Prysm
This film is FULL of original music, with a band present in many of the scenes and many of the characters taking moments to sing and dance. This project is highly inspired by traditional and experimental theatre and will feel very much like a play adapted for the camera.
This story has been in my mind for a couple of years now. I've written it as multiple different plays, poems, and even released a concept album based off of its themes. I've read a version of it titled Persimmon at Lithic Bookstore in Fruita with some lovely friends. I've workshopped it, and now I've finally finished the script that adapts it for the camera, which is how I believe it was always meant to be. This is a story that will not leave me.
I have a background in theatre as an Associate Artistic Director with Zephyr Stage in Fruita, CO since early 2021 and have written/directed/produced one other film titled Derek Daffodil and the Journey to the Places Unseen that you can view on my YouTube channel under the name Finn Benham. I co-wrote the play Johnny Jane with my colleagues at Zephyr Stage, and have a pretty hefty collection of other stories, novellas, plays, and music that I've written since I was literate. I grew up making short "movies" on whatever camera I could get my hands on at the time. I feel that there is a lot that has led up to this project.
Keeping in the tradition set by Derek Daffodil, Cullen Purser is my right hand for Prysmion. At least 40% of the budget is expected to go towards compensating Cullen for his valuable time. The rest will go towards paying assistants, purchasing wigs, costumes, props, puppet-making-supplies, food for cast and crew, sunscreen for outdoor filming days, and other necessities.
We plan to film exclusively in the Fruita/Grand Junction area. I am proud to call the Grand Valley my stomping grounds and I look forward to representing my hometown by producing a film here.
I hope you can contribute to this effort, and I thank you for any and all donations. Truly, anything you can give will help immensely. Please consider sharing this Go Fund Me link as well so other people can see this!
Please message me if you would like to read the script or if you have any questions.
My Immense Thanks,Finn (Finnjamin) Benham
