Story
“Years ago, billions of souls disappeared from this Earth and, for a night, the world mourned. But, come dawn, the ground shook like never before and ripped it open. From the depths climbed the Demons, creatures from Hell, Rising to bring only chaos and malice. Battered nations warred against them but, in time, nations fell to states, states fell to cities, cities to towns. There are no governments, no armies, guns and bullets are extinct. But not yet Mankind. Now all that remains in humanities defense are weapons for hire, EXORCISTS.”
Hell Rising as a concept began as some small idea, in the back of my mind. Truthfully, the world came to life back during Freshman year of college, my life was turned upside down, mentally I was in a bad place. I didn't see the hope in most everything, and I couldn't see any redemption within myself. When I was near rock bottom, I gravitated towards media that portrayed just how hopeless I was feeling and, coupled with my hobby to write and worldbuild, I spent some time creating this hopeless world. But I couldn't shake the feeling that the character's in this story deserved some sort of hope, redemption. In a world where the biblical rapture takes place, how would the people left behind live? How would they survive if their lives were constantly threatened by demons and monsters? These questions were the cornerstone of the world of Hell Rising.
Something that I didn't know back then was that I tend to pour my soul into my projects, Hell Rising is no different. I had locked myself in the belief that I was living in this hopeless world without redemption; that in this world where sin and decay have conquered all, I was really looking back at myself. I am now a senior at Liberty University, and this story; this world that I have created as a prison for myself, will be a tool that I will speak the good news of God and his works in times where everything feels hopeless, when you feel irredeemable.
With Hell Rising being my Thesis film, I am more than committed to executing my duties to the best of my abilities and giving you nothing less than the best film I can make.
This is how I'll do that:
Hell Rising is a film in a dirty and dark world, we won't be straying from that. Visually I wish to use darkness as a canvas and use lighting off of our characters to paint our movie. We will also be precise with the placement and movement of our camera in tandem with the stunt work we will shoot.
Sound design and the clarity of sound is one of our main priorities whenever I put a film to production, no matter the scale. If a movie sounds bad, it is.
Action and Stunts will be a massive factor in this film, and it cannot be forgotten in our priorities. The important thing is safety rather than stunt design. I could care less if the stunts look terrible, if it means that everyone is absolutely safe. But the stunts will look good, really good.
