The last few years have shown me a side of our community I didn’t realize was so vulnerable. I’ve been caring for an elderly gentleman, and while our time together has been incredibly rewarding, it has also opened my eyes to a heart breaking reality: many of our elders are isolated and lonely.
I saw first hand how difficult it was for him to find opportunities to socialize and connect with others. We’d look for local activities, and time and again, we found there wasn’t much available. It made me wonder how many other seniors in our area feel the same way—like they've been forgotten.
This isn't just about my friend; it's about all of our grandparents, parents, and neighbours who deserve to feel seen and valued. They built our communities and now, when they need us most, we need to be there for them.
This is why I’m starting The Forever Young Social Club. My goal is to create a welcoming space where our elders can come together to socialize, share stories, and simply enjoy each other's company. I want to organize a regular weekly event with games like bingo, play your cards right and some music and movement, which is particularly valuable for people with dementia, including tea, coffee, biscuits and cake afternoon teas, simple activities that can make a huge difference in someone’s life.
Your support will help us secure a location, purchase supplies, and offer these events on a regular basis. Every penny helps brings us closer to building a place where no one has to feel alone.
