Help Create a Lasting Tribute for Albert Chavez

The Edison Park community is best described as family-friendly, safe, welcoming, and inclusive. At the heart of this exceptional neighborhood is Edison Park Elementary, a school that reflects these shared values and serves as a pillar of unity. In this one-of-a-kind community, children have the opportunity to grow and thrive in ways that are truly special. More than just a school, Edison Park Elementary is a family—one that fosters lifelong connections, invaluable lessons, and inspired greatness. One remarkable student who embodied everything we aspire to be was Albert Chavez, better known as Tony.
Even as a young third grader at Edison Park Elementary, Tony already knew he wanted to serve his country as a Marine. His drive for service and excellence was infectious, and by eighth grade, his peers recognized his dedication, voting him “Most Likely to Serve Our Country.” While Tony was deeply committed to his goals, those who knew him will also tell you that he was one of the funniest people you could ever meet. He had a love for Metallica, Viking history, the Chicago White Sox, and, above all, serving the country he cherished.
After graduating from Edison Park Elementary and attending Taft High School, Tony never wavered in his mission to become a Marine. A gentle warrior, he touched the lives of many, and though there are countless people who are grateful for his service and sacrifice, many will never have the chance to thank him.
Last year, Tony made the ultimate sacrifice doing what he loved most—serving as a Marine. He was fearless, brave, selfless, hardworking, kind, wise, dedicated, and fierce. To honor his legacy, the National Junior Honor Society is committed to ensuring that Tony’s story continues to inspire future generations to live with passion, purpose, and greatness.
Currently, NJHS is working with teachers and community members to create a memorial garden in Tony’s honor, located around the flagpole on school grounds. This garden will not only reflect the incredible person Tony was but will also serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy. Our goal is to maintain and celebrate this space for generations to come.
Please consider donating to this meaningful cause in memory of a Marine and a young man who left us too soon but will never be forgotten.
