RED THREAD OF FATE Logline: When having an affair with an older man, a college graduate must make a commitment to marry, or else her narcissistic felon boyfriend will get his revenge.

Hi! I'm Woo Ae Yi, lead writer and executive producer of Red Thread of Fate—a PG-13 Nora Ephron-style chick flick feature film. As a Korean adoptee, I did not find a lot of representation of my experiences in entertainment. As a writer, I started wondering, "Could I turn my lived experiences into a book then a film?" RED THREAD OF FATE is an adaptation of my book Red Thread of Fate, which is based on true events but altered to protect people's privacy.

RED THREAD OF FATE is You’ve Got Mail against the backdrop of an Adjustment Bureau philosophy. The film tips its hat to classic Nora Ephron movies and Crazy Rich Asians: It's a good old-fashioned romance drama with Asians, particular Asian adoptees, in front of the camera and behind the camera. Do we control our own destinies, or are they defined before birth? This is also a story about cheating fate and cheating on each other at the same time in a love triangle.

RED THREAD OF FATE is a story that focuses on an adopted young woman coming into her own through self-discovery and romantic relationships. Meet ZARAH, an optimistic love addict who is dating PEREZ, a fun narcissist with a criminal background. YUE is a romantic Asian commitment phobe in an affair with Zarah.

Will she let go of her current relationship and take the chance to change everything? Or will giving into her heart ruin it all? The only thing Zarah knows for certain is the war of emotions in her soul must end if she is ever going to find the perfect companion.

What We Need & What You Get

Our total budget is $130,000. We're keeping our costs low through creative problem solving. We're so sure this film is going to sell well that even though we can guarantee a 20% ROI, the likelihood is that it will be much larger.

Our crowdfunding campaign is seeking $10K to cover our initial costs. Seriously, though, we didn't want to overwhelm you. We figure $10K is enough to get us through the first phase of the project. And, hey, people kept contributing to Super Trooper 2's campaign after they met their goal. In fact, by promising an additional car chase scene, Super Troopers 2 (ST2) exceeded their goal by $2 million. Now, as much as we love ST2, $2 million is Hollywood pricing. If you all rally behind us, we'll add a car crash scene too. Only we'll do it for a mere $300K over our goal. Now that's Midwestern values right there.

All the funds we collect from this campaign will be used toward the production or distribution of the film, and we won't stop until we're premiering at Sundance or Telluride. Or streaming to your living room. Whichever comes first.  We're making this movie no matter what. Because we're closers.
