Hi, my name is Greg and I run a project called Sundrop’s Cat Rescue. A venture designed to help the many stray cats and abandoned kittens in Kuching, Malaysia.
We currently run a mobile facility helping sick, injured, and hungry stray cats by operating city-wide feeding programs, spay/neuter and release initiatives, vaccinations, as well as re-homing stray cats.
The biggest issue in Kuching is the constant cycle of pregnancy, birth, and nursing that stray cats are caught up in. This assault on the mother cats’ bodies significantly shortens their lifespan, and this breeding cycle also leads to more stray cats, many of whom live very miserable, and often very short lives themselves. In addition to this, many have untreated illnesses, are malnourished, or injured. It’s not uncommon to find tiny, unwell kittens who have been abandoned by their mother, and who will likely not survive without our help.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to create a dedicated space in the city centre where we can provide full time care and an ongoing adoption service for as many cats as possible, whilst also operating a shop, cafe and volunteer centre with 100% of profits going towards helping the cats we rescue.
The first stage of our goal will be to raise the initial £2000 which will allow us to secure the premises (which we have already chosen), and pay all necessary deposits, upfront rent etc. Beyond that, we will be continuing to raise funds up to the final goal of £22,000 which will allow us to purchase equipment for the cat care areas on the upper floors, as well as the shop and cafe, and obtain all necessary licenses. Once we achieve this goal we will be able to care for large numbers of cats at once, and create a fully fledged adoption program to get cats re-homed both here in Malaysia, and all over the world. It’s a project we are truly passionate about, and one that we are positive will lead to great things, and improve the lives of countless stray cats.
Cost breakdown:
Initial £2000:
- Secure our 2.5 storey shophouse in Kuching city centre
- Pay rental deposit, utilities deposit, and first month’s rent
- We will immediately set up a temporary space for looking after cats, meaning the rescue project begins as soon as we have the keys to the building.
Next £7000
- Purchase and install cat cages, play areas, cleaning area, heat lamps, basic medical equipment, blankets, towels, food bowls, food, medicine etc. for the cat care area
- Put aside £1400 for rental (next 3 months)
- We will utilise the ground floor area during this period to run fundraisers of various sorts to help further fund the project.
Next £8000
- Obtain necessary licenses, council inspections etc. for opening the shop and cafe.
- Purchase and install equipment and furniture for the shop and cafe on the ground floor. This will include new toilets, a kitchen, drinks preparation area, decorations, tables and chairs, tiling, flooring, new front doors etc. We will do all work ourselves, and source recycled furniture and decorations wherever possible.
- Purchase and install signage to the front of the property.
- Create marketing package to let tourists and locals know about our project, what we do, and what we offer.
- Purchase merchandise for the shop, and stock for the cafe.
- Launch the cafe and shop.
- Start generating profit from the cafe and shop, to be used directly for helping the cats.
Next £5000
- Pay the remaining few months rent up front so that one entire year is paid in advance, allow us to build up the revenue from the shop, and help more cats.
