I've created this campaign to help raise funds to support my partner Crash and their nesting partner Jay.
What Happened?
Over the last two months, Crash began rapidly losing mobility, which led to several painful falls, emergency room visits, and countless doctor’s appointments. At first, they were told by a spine specialist that their symptoms didn’t warrant surgery and that their weight made them ineligible for treatment.
Despite the lack of care and urgency from that clinic, their incredible care team continued to search for answers. Unfortunately, before they could get a clear diagnosis, they suffered a major fall—and suddenly, couldn’t move their legs at all.
Thankfully, the ER team and neurology department acted quickly and took Crash's symptoms seriously. Within 24 hours, they were in emergency surgery. It turns out bone spurs were compressing their spinal cord and causing the severe loss of function. The surgery was successful, and while their prognosis is hopeful, the road to recovery will be long and intensive.
After 3 weeks in the hospital, Crash has now been transferred to an inpatient rehab hospital, beginning a rigorous rehab program working to regain strength and mobility.
While Crash and Jay have an amazing support system of family and friends, and beloved critters—they need some extra help.
Why I'm Asking for Support
Recovery from spinal cord surgery involves more than hospital bills. We're raising funds to help Crash and Jay cover the ongoing cost of medical supplies, mobility aids (electric Hoyer lift, customizable wheelchair and accessories, shower chair, commode, hospital bed with pressure relief mattress), rehab equipment, home modifications (building ramps, widening doorways), and other essentials that insurance doesn’t fully cover. These items are crucial to help Crash regain independence and improve their quality of life in the months ahead.
If you’re able to contribute, even a small amount makes a big difference. And if you can’t donate, sharing this with others means the world.
