Craig Pulley is our friend and handyman. For nearly two decades, Craig and his wife, Carol, have faced one hardship after another, including serious health problems and years of housing instability. Despite all of this, Craig has continued working and doing everything he can to be there for Carol.
A few years ago, Carol suffered a stroke and now lives in a nursing home, where she needs daily care. Craig had been living in a trailer in Oakland, staying close to the work that supports him while making the long commute to Burlingame to spend time with Carol and help care for her.
On August 9, Craig’s trailer caught fire and burned completely to the ground. In a matter of hours, he lost his home and nearly everything he owned, and heartbreakingly, his two beloved cats, Selfie and Puppy. He is now sleeping in his truck while trying to figure out what comes next, all while continuing to make the trip to Burlingame to be there for Carol.
If you are part of the Magnolia Music School community, you may remember Craig from the work he did in our space last summer. He helped transform what had been a pretty bare space into the school it is today. He sanded, painted, installed acoustic panels, hung guitars, wall sconces, curtain rods, pegboards, and seemingly a hundred other things. He brought incredible skill and care to the work, and many of us have seen firsthand the pride he takes in doing things well.
Now Craig needs some help. I’m raising money to help him replace the basic belongings he lost in the fire and, most importantly, get back into safe, stable housing. After everything Craig and Carol have already been through, losing his home this way is an enormous setback.
Any amount will make a real difference. Donations will go directly toward Craig’s immediate needs, replacing essential belongings, and helping him secure housing. If you aren’t able to give, sharing this fundraiser would also mean so much.
Craig has spent years showing up for other people, including our family and our little music school. I would love for us to show up for him now.
