Help COVID LIT spread art and philanthropy

COVID-19 has revealed a lot about the social, political, and economic issues present in the United States and across the world, issues that thousands of terrific non-profit organizations--powered by optimism, volunteers, and donations--are tirelessly combating.
As a writer, I understand that the value of art stretches beyond entertainment. Art offers universal perspective. Art helps us grow into more empathetic, selfless people. Art is meant to inspire change. The goal of COVID LIT is to not only publish important prose and poetry, but to demonstrate that art can yield REAL change.
COVID LIT (www.covidlit.org) is a new online lit magazine that publishes new work by new and established writers and artists every month. So, how do we actually change things for the better? While most literary magazines charge a small submission fee to writers in order for their work to be considered for publication, COVID LIT requires potential contributors to donate at least $3 to a nonprofit organization of their choosing in order to have their work considered. In our first three months, COVID LIT has directed $4014 updated June 24, 2020) toward various regional, national, and international nonprofits and charitable causes, such as Feeding America, Meals on Wheels, ACLU, One Laptop Per Child, the CDC Foundation, HealthWell, Doctors Without Borders, and dozens more. COVID LIT is mobilizing writers, showing the world that art and artists do, in fact, make the world a whole lot more awesome.
And believe me when I say this: we have only just begun.
The reason for this GoFundMe page is simple: this endeavor is currently funded by one person, and, for this to be a sustainable endeavor, it will take more than a teacher's salary to grow this magazine and, ultimately, direct even more money to nonprofits that need it. Thus far, expenses go toward advertising, website maintenance, stock images, CLMP membership, and domain registration. Outside of additional advertising to attract as many readers and writers as we can, other future expenses include a submission manager such as Submittable (managing hundreds of submissions via GMAIL is not ideal) as well as the cost of publishing a print anthology in the future, all money beyond printing and distribution costs being donated to various nonprofits.
If all goes well, perhaps COVID LIT becomes a nonprofit organization itself with a staff of devoted people who want to fight the same fight as me and the many writers submitting their work to the magazine. But, for that to be a possibility, this job cannot be solely funded by one person. Thank you so much for checking out this request, and I hope you consider helping out.
