Help covering surgery, medical and recovery expenses
Donation protected
How it’s going: September 1 (One-Month Post-Op) - X-Rays have come back promising and things are on the mend. The doctor says it will be at least another 3-weeks before we consider physical therapy; which is likely to be 3~6 months.
Thank you to everyone who's donated so far! Some of my expenses are starting to pile up as I've prioritized everything I have toward medical costs. If you're able to help, I would so very much appreciate it! Thank you also to everyone who's reached out with moral support! I'm so grateful!
August 5 (Operation Day) - What was planned to be a two and a half hour procedure lasted nearly four hours. My surgeon initially anticipated fusing my bones and perhaps adding a screw or a plate, if needed. Once I was under the knife, he found there was a significant amount of scar tissue with bone fragments that had to be extracted.
The surgery required him to break my second metatarsal and proceed with a bone graft, as well as use a reconstruction plate, along three cancellous and cortical screws. Instead of 6~8 weeks of recovery, I’ve now been told that it will be ~12 weeks before we can start considering transitioning to what will be a lengthy road of physical therapy.
While I’ve been on the job hunt for over a year, until I’m able to recover some mobility, I’ll be unable to work for the foreseeable future.
How it started: At the beginning of July, I announced my move to New Orleans, while on my 2,603 miles drive down from Seattle. About 10-hours into the 43-hour drive, I fell and my entire body weight landed on my right foot; my doctors and surgeons have all said (separately, after seeing the CT Scan) that it looks like a car ran over my foot.
On Monday, I’ll be undergoing surgery to fuse three of my bones together, to try to repair the six fractures they’ve found; they’ve cautioned there may be more damage to repair when they get me under the scalpel. The recovery is expected to be 6-8 weeks of 100% no-weight on my foot, followed by a few months of PT.
Even with my health insurance, the procedure, PT, unforeseen medical costs, and everyday expenses are expected to be several thousand dollars. While I’ve been fortunate to have savings to cover my expenses for some time, my job search has been ongoing for nearly a year and these expenses are leaning me towards a potentially grim financial situation.
I’m asking for your help!
