"On Friday, September 22nd, I received a call from Southfield PD that my mother had passed away from a heart attack and my adult brother (who she filed for legal guardianship of because of his developmental disabilities) had been with the body -- not eating or drinking for 5 days.

EMS transported my brother to the hospital and my husband and I took a flight from Austin to Southfield. My brother, who we learned has acute schizophrenia, is in active psychosis in a state where none of our family lives. I've had to clear out their apt (using a bio hazard service) and we are still waiting for the morgue to release her body to the funeral home to be cremated.

I am currently seeking emergency guardianship of my brother with the help of lawyers.

I still have to cremate my mother and do a funeral service -- all while traveling back and forth between Detroit (where my brother will be temporarily institutionalized) and Buffalo (where my family lives) and Austin (where I live). Waiting for a death certificate and my brothers psychiatric facility placement means that I am currently stuck in Detroit where Airbnb bills and hotel bills are stacking up. Anything helps!"
