This is my dad, Nikolaus Treffert, he is 53 years old. In 2017 he was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors assured him he would be ok and was even in remission for a couple years after treatment. In 2022 his cancer came back and he continued to do treatment. Again doctors assured us he would be ok, maybe uncomfortable, but ok. In March of 2025 he was hospitalized due to pneumonia for 3 weeks. We raised some money for those expenses, but not nearly enough. When he was hospitalized he had to quit working and was put on life support. However, he is stubborn and was determined to go home. He was able to be home for about 3 weeks before he was hospitalized again with the same infection. It turns out when he left MD Anderson in Houston he wasn't fully healed and we weren't able to get into the right doctors fast enough here locally. After another 3 week hospitalization and being put on life support he was able to come home. He was then hospitalized again in July this time with something else that the doctors couldn't figure out. On August 30th he got extremely agitated and forcibly removed his feeding tube, IV, and tried to remove his trach. The doctors decided his only option at this point was hospice with an expectancy of 3-4 days. He has since stopped receiving food, liquid, and any type of medication except pain and sedation. It has been hard on those of us that are here since we are transplants. The hospital stays and all the home tasks are split between my mom and I. All of this is extremely expensive and there have been many days of work missed. All I want is to help lessen the financial stress on my mom because she's having to face becoming a widow at 44.
