Help Cover Roux's Amputation Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Beth and this is my dog, Roux (pronounced like Roo).

She just turned two this past October. When I adopted her in spring 2020, I wasn't even looking for a dog to adopt. I just happened to stumble on her Petfinder listing and knew right away that she was meant to be my dog, even though she was in a shelter in Texas and I lived in Kansas City. I put in an application right away, and luckily the shelter was very kind and made arrangements with volunteers to transport her to me several states away. I had to wait about a month after officially adopting her before the transportation team was able to bring her to me, so in the meantime I communicated a lot with her foster mom to find out as much as I could about her and to get lots of pictures and updates on how she was doing. Her foster mom told me that she had been rescued as a puppy from a situation in which she was left chained up outside day and night with no access to food or water.

Here's Roux on the first day that we met in person, riding home and exploring her new backyard. Aren't her Dobby ears just the cutest??

She was even more loveable in person and we were best friends right away. She's such a funny, silly girl and she LOVES to snuggle. She absolutely adores her doggy sister Ava, and even managed to win over her cat siblings as well (she's so gentle with them). She is such an important part of our little family, and I can't imagine life without her now.

When we went to let the dogs in from the backyard earlier this week, Roux hopped up to the backdoor with her front right paw held up and crying. It was obvious right away that something was very wrong - her paw was hanging at an angle and she wouldn't let us touch it to examine it without screeching in pain. We have no idea what happened to her because she was only outside for maybe ten minutes.

We rushed her to the emergency vet where they confirmed that it was broken - very badly broken. Two of the largest bones in her front right leg were completely broken in half and had misaligned so that they were overlapping.

The vet informed us that, due to the severity of the break, the best option would be to amputate her leg because surgical reconstruction with metal plates would be very expensive with a very painful, long recovery and could result in further complications and possible lifelong pain even after the surgery. As heartbreaking as this news was to hear, after discussing with the vet and others we agreed that amputation would be the best thing for Roux. Dogs are able to adapt very quickly to limb amputation without losing any quality of life and it would stop her pain right away, which is the most important thing right now.

The emergency vet splinted and wrapped her leg as a temporary measure and her amputation has been scheduled for January 20, 2022 with our regular vet. Unfortunately, the cost of amputation surgery (along with the emergency vet fees and medication) is still more than we can afford right now. I was able to borrow enough to cover the cost of the emergency vet and the amputation procedure so that we could get it done as soon as possible so that Roux doesn't have to suffer any longer than necessary, but the money will need to be paid back very soon and I am struggling to come up with the funds to pay it back.

The emergency vet visit came to about $700 and the surgeon's estimate for the amputation procedure is around $1800. I normally hate to ask for financial assistance, but I just love this little girl so much and am willing to do whatever it takes to ease her pain.

If you could spare a few dollars to donate to help out with Roux's vet bills for her amputation, I would be tremendously grateful. Any amount, no matter how small, would be so helpful and appreciated.

Thank you so much for anything that you can do to help my little Roux girl so she can get back to her playful, silly self.
